Seattle leaders have introduced emergency legislation to halt the establishment or expansion of immigration detention centers within city limits. The proposed moratorium would last for 365 days, with a full city council vote scheduled for February 24, 2026. Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck is spearheading the effort, joined by King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda, Port of Seattle Commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa, and SeaTac Deputy Mayor Senayet Negusse, according to Seattle City Council.
